DOG DISEASES

 

D. H. P. P. - Distemper/Parvo

                   

       Distemper - a viral disease of dogs causing respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems symptoms.  It is usually fatal and very contagious.

 

       Hepatitis - a viral disease of dogs which can cause a true hepatitis with jaundice, diarrhea, or a respiratory disease.

 

       Parainfluenza - a viral component of the kennel cough complex causing bronchitis and/or pneumonia.

 

       Parvovirus - a virus which causes severe vomiting and diarrhea (usually bloody).  It is often fatal if untreated and sometimes even if treated.  It is very contagious.

 

Bordetella - a bacterial disease which is very contagious and causes a loud, honking cough accompanying bronchitis.

 

Rabies- a viral disease of warm blooded mammals and bats which causes  severe encephalitis with changes in behavior and often paralysis of the swallowing muscles.  It is fatal in animals.  There may be carriers in certain species, ie. skunks.

 

Leptospirosis - a highly contagious disease of many mammals which causes fever, muscle pain, kidney disease, jaundice, and even death.  It is carried by infected animals (such as wildlife) through  their urine by either contact or ingestion of contaminated water.

 

K-9 Influenza - a viral disease which can cause upper respiratory disease or pneumonia which could potentially be life threatening.

This is a complex of 3 diseases which cause respiratory problems, anemia, gastrointestinal issues, and even immune-compromise diseases.

 

 

Felv - Feline Leukemia Virus - A viral disease of cats which causes immunosuppression (therefore these cats can't fight off exposure to diseases well), cancers, and often death  It is transmitted through body fluids (blood, saliva,etc.)  and is highly contagious.  A chronic carrier state can exist.
